It's obvious - people like music. Music is useless in material world
but affects on our emotions and that's why it is commonly considered as 

alternative form of communication. The funny thing is that, scientist still
don't know exactly why so abstract mixture of sounds is so popular and adorable. 

Every culture circle and historical age had it's own, specific style, sounds, 

rythmes and instruments. Our XXI century is no exception - nowdays we use not
only electric guitar, which revolutionized second half of XX century, but also
electronic instruments based on analog or virtual soud synthesis and other 

digital technologies.

Reactable - very eye-catching, high-tech electronic music instrument.

Reactable provides sound generation "from base", sampling, sequencing,
effect processing, multi-mixing of tracks and application of effect.
It can be used by many musicians at once so it is great to common play.
For me it is a great example of device which shows how music instruments can evolve.

By the way, Reactable was made by music-freak students from Barcelona.
Their buisness grown up and Reactable nowdays is used by proffesional musicians 

(Bjork) and in many public education places. As original Reactable was very 

expensive (9700 Euro), from 2010 the simplified idea of reactable is 

avaliable for e.g. on iPad at more affordable price ;).
